THANKS to the support of Waitrose, Holsworthy C of E Primary School’s breakfast club has continued to hold its ‘breakfast from around the world’ events, whilst finding time to complete a themed drawing competition.
During the breakfast club’s latest themed breakfast, America, the children took part in a drawing competition with an American theme and the winners received a special prize of a bar of chocolate. Dylan Neep won ‘funniest’ drawing, while Jayden Cook won the younger section and his sister Tiana Cook won the older section. The decisions were made by Holsworthy Waitrose branch manager Damian Heard.
Then, on Tuesday, June 12, the breakfast club held its Russian themed breakfast, thanks to the support of Holsworthy’s Waitrose store once again.
The children were served ‘Kasha’, a porridge with cinnamon and cloves with a blueberry syrup to accompany it. Also they had ‘Draniki’, potato pancakes with onion and some ham.
On the day the school were also presented with their ‘Community Matters’ cheque by Waitrose & Partners Community Matters lead Marilyn Chidley.
Marilyn said: “We have now travelled to four countries, America, Belgium, France and Russia, the children have really embraced trying something different and are now more confident to ask Dan [Waitrose chef] and myself questions about food and how to make things for themselves. We both really enjoy our visits to Holsworthy Primary and having this opportunity to introduce them to different cultures and tastes.”
Caroline Cann from the breakfast club team said: “We were overjoyed with the amount we received and thank everyone who posted their tokens in our slot! The money is much needed to replace our old table top oven and purchase vital cooking equipment so that the whole school can be involved with our healthy eating drive, especially during breakfast club. We are currently travelling around the world sampling a typical breakfast from a chosen county in conjunction with Waitrose.”
She added: “We are very grateful to Marilyn, Dan and Holsworthy Waitrose branch for their generous support in helping us with this project.”
