NINETEEN lucky Year 5 and 6 pupils from Egloskerry Primary School, part of Launceston College Multi Academy Trust, had the trip of their lives recently when they went on the London residential, the first trip of its kind for the school.

Expectations were exceeded during this trip not only for the experiences that the Y5/6 pupils and staff had but also for the way the pupils behaved and represented the school and county.

During the three-day, two-night trip, Egloskerry pupils experienced: Leicester Square, Matilda the Musical (and met Matilda on the way to the station!), Buckingham Palace, Green Park/St James’s Park, College Green and Parliament, a tour and workshop at Parliament, met and asked questions with Scott Mann MP, the London Eye and 4D Experience, Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, Harry Potter tour and workshop at Warner Brother Studios and the London Underground!

Principal, Mrs Emma Kerr, commented: “Rich, immersive experiences for all pupils are what lie at the heart of developing confidence and resilience in our young people. During our trip, the carefully planned activities linked to all areas of the curriculum, building on the topic work the children had been learning in class with Mr Chorlton (Ministry of Magic and Politics!). Children had meaning to their London activities and experiences, deepening their knowledge, skills and understanding via a lived, interconnected experience.”

Mrs Joy Stoppard, a parent of a pupil who went on the trip, summed up the impact that this experience had on her child.

She said: “Toby has said that this trip has given him so much more confidence — confidence around others and in himself, as he has realised that he is able to achieve so much more than he thought he was able to.

“He says that he has got so many wonderful memories of the trip, with his friends and teachers and he feels lucky to have had the opportunity to share this experience with all his friends, some of whom have been with him since nursery. He will be leaving Egloskerry this year with such amazing memories, one of which is this London trip which is no doubt going to be the fondest and with the most impact.

“As parents, we are so proud of and full of admiration for Mrs Kerr and the teachers who went, for all their hard work and commitment and cannot thank them enough for taking such good care of our children and giving them a memory which will last a lifetime.”
