THE children at Holsworthy C of E Primary School really enjoyed making concoctions and fizzy explosions recently, during a ‘Muck, Mess and Mixtures’ session which kicked off their new topic for the term.

Key Stage 1 lead Laura Lewis organised the event. She said: “The Muck, Mess and Mixtures morning was held as a stimulus for our new topic this term. We wanted to provide the children with a memorable experience, allowing them to use and explore their different senses.”

The morning included a range of activities — making magic potions, creating their own mess monsters and concocting a fizzy explosion.

Miss Lewis said the most popular activity however was the ‘guess the mess’ game, which involved jelly, cold beans, custard and rice. The children were blind-folded and had to guess what was inside the tray by only using their hands — even the grown ups had a go!

Miss Lewis added: “It was wonderful to see all the children so enthused by the morning and it was a fantastic start to our muck, mess and mixtures topic.”
