LAUNCESTON and Bodmin are among 28 places across Great Britain that will see additional driving theory test centres opened.
Launceston’s new centre, which opens on Tuesday, September 6, will be based in the Town Hall Offices on Western Road while Bodmin’s will open exactly a fortnight later.
Again, like Launceston, Bodmin’s centre will be based in their Town Hall Offices at Shire House, Mount Folly.
The additional centres will be at seven fixed sites and 21 community-based locations and will provide candidates with a greater choice of location to take their theory test.
DVSA chief driving examiner, Lesley Young, said: “DVSA is committed to providing a service that meets the needs and expectations of our customers.
“I’m pleased that we’ll be able to offer customers more choice and will be opening an additional 28 theory test centres across Great Britain, as a result of our contract extension with Pearson VUE.”
The community-based centres will be open to the public from September with candidates able to make bookings from Friday, August 12. These centres will be open on an occasional basis in response to local demand.
Holsworthy driving instructor, Alec Hooper, welcomed the news.
He said it will help people in North Cornwall and the Holsworthy area. He added: “It will be a great thing for everyone in the local area, as before they’d have to either get their parents or whoever to drop them down to Plymouth, Exeter or Barnstaple.”
“But now there’s somewhere on their doorstep which can only be a good thing for young people so it’s good news for everybody.”
