The Quality Assurance Group awarded Delabole Primary School the National Healthy School Status in March this year. The programme is based on a whole school approach to physical and emotional health and wellbeing focused on four core themes: personal, social and health education, healthy eating, physical activity and emotional health and wellbeing. It involves working with children, young people, parents/carers, staff and governors to provide a solid foundation from which developments and improvement are embedded in a systematic way. These processes contribute to the physical and emotional development of all members of the school community. The vision of the Healthy Schools Award is that all children and young people be healthy and achieve at school and in life. The school believe that by providing opportunities at school for enhancing physical and emotional health and wellbeing, this will improve long term health, reduce health inequalities, increase social inclusion and raise achievement for all. The next step for the school is to work towards achieving Healthy Schools Plus from September 2010.
