A man from Holsworthy, who worked for 240 hours creating a Union Flag design rug for the King has received a letter of thanks from HM King Charles III.

Terry Sillifant spent more than 240 hours earlier this year creating a rug as a gift for the new King.

Mr Sillifant chose a Union Flag design and when making this hand-crafted rug took great care in creating, cutting and trimming the design himself.

Mr Sillifant had previously made a similar rug for the late Queen Elizabeth II, however he never had a response to say it was received. Not deterred however, Mr Sillifant decided to make a second rug and this time sent it by recorded delivery.

As thanks for his work, Mr Sillifant received a letter from the King’s Correspondence Secretary, Mrs Celia Guy. In the letter, Mrs Guy expressed the King’s thanks for “the splendid Union Flag” he had created.

The letter continued: “His Majesty was touched by the care you have taken to make this gift especially for him.

“Although it is not possible for The King to reply to you personally, His Majesty is most grateful for your generous gesture and The King would have me send you his warmest thanks and best wishes.”
