A LANEAST pasty maker has tasted major success in the first ever World Pastry Championships.
Aptly named Graham Cornish of Ginsters, Callington, bagged two top prizes at the first-ever World Pasty Championships at the Eden Project last Saturday (March 3).
Mr Cornish, who lives in Laneast, came top in the Cornish Professional Pasty section and also top in the Open Savoury Professional Section in the championships, which took place at the Eden project, St Austell. at the weekend.
His Cornish Pasty followed a traditional recipe of skirt beef and vegetables while his open savoury pasty contained a selection of smoked Cornish fish, parsley, saffron and Cornish clotted cream.
Mr Cornish, the product development manager of Ginsters, said: "I'm humbled to win these awards.
"I've been making pasties from the age of five. The secret of a great pasty is using the freshest local ingredients.
"Eden is a brilliant venue and this event raises the profile of the Cornish pasty. It's good for local sourcing and local farming and it's brilliant to get people eating more pasties."
Andy Valentine, Head of Brand Marketing for Ginsters, said: "We're so proud of Graham. He's been developing innovative and delicious creations in our Ginsters bakery for the past 28 years, so it's no surprise to us that his recipes have gone down a storm at competition level."
