Bude Hotels Ltd, the owners of the An Mor Hotel in Bude want to repurpose a small portion of land to create a “new specialised care home.”

The proposal suggests that part of the existing hotel structure be demolished to make way for a three-storey specialist care home. Comprised of 50 en-suit rooms, the building will ‘be carefully designed for specialist care, such as for dementia.”

However, this is by no means a planning application, the aim of the proposal is to retrieve feedback from local residents.

Eliot Jones, director at Planning Potential, the organisation acting on behalf of the site owner said: “The owner of the An Mor Hotel is preparing to submit an outline planning application for a new 50-bed care home on part of their site. The proposal will see the existing hotel retained, with a reduction in guestrooms refurbished to a high standard, and a new purpose built care home provided on the remainder of the site.

“The council has identified a local need for care, and the proposal seeks to respond to this. As part of pre-application community consultation, we have invited residents of Bude to view the proposals and provide their feedback. We will be reviewing the feedback received as we prepare to submit the planning application.”

The proposal suggests that “a new care home will significantly contribute to Cornwall’s identified need for specialist care, helping Bude with its aspiration for growth in the area and contributing to the housing needs of all age groups.”

The care home will “maximise the use of scarce brownfield land in a central location,” and “generate a net increase in jobs on the site, creating new employment opportunities for Bude and Stratton residents.”

However, having already been met with mixed responses online, what do you think of this proposal?
