This term children at Budehaven Nursery have been studying 'Growth'. This term's project has seen the children plant cress and runner beans to name two. They have also been watching caterpillars that come to the garden and the way they develop from the stages of a caterpillar to a butterfly. As part of the topic, the children received a visit from Ben Feasey of Rainforest Adventure last Thursday. He took along with him various animals including a giant snail, cockroach, stick insect, a millipede and a snake. The nursery encourages visits from various organisations and groups, over the year this has included a farmer who took his lambs into the nursery to show them to the children and a visit from the local vet. Jean House, day nursery manager, said that the children "loved it" and they learnt a lot from the visit, some of the favourites included learning that the millipede had four legs to each section of its body and that the snail shell felt like their finger nails. Jean commented on Ben's visit: "It was really good, really interesting and the children enjoyed themselves."
