MEMBERS of the Bude Pilot Gig Club are getting excited as their new boathouse moves towards completion.

The building is currently being constructed in Summerleaze Car Park and will house the club’s gigs.

The steel frame and roof are nearly complete, and the next stage of construction is currently taking place.

A spokesperson from the club explained: “If you have visited Summerleaze Car Park recently, you will have seen it for yourselves – a long-term presence in the town that will encourage townspeople to see us as a real part of the Bude family and to share our successes within the pilot gig community.”

For the first time since the club’s inception, the club shall have a permanent home for ‘Bedehaven’, the racing gig, and the opportunity to go out to sea from Summerleaze much more frequently — time and tides permitting.

“There will also be space for a new racing gig when we feel the time is right,” a spokesperson continued. “We will keep you updated as and when things progress further.”
