BUDE Infant School took part in ‘No Pens Day Wednesday’ as part of the Dyslexia Awareness Week recently.

Teachers and pupils both had to go throughout the day without using any pens, therefore having to improvise and work on their practical and communication skills.

Hannah Lee, the SENCO (Special Education Needs Co-ordinator) and an early years teacher at the school organised the day and was delighted with how everyone responded.

“The whole day went brilliantly, better than anything I could have wished for really. My foundation year class as did the others, a lot of learning through speaking and listening activities. We did lessons on arts, maths and problem solving as well as working on our story language.”

Such was the success of the day, one of the Year 2 teachers, Mrs Miles, is looking to continue to make the idea a permanent fixture in her maths classes as she believes that focusing on the visual side and the practical side of maths gave her pupil’s a better understanding.
