A CATERING student from Cornwall College St Austell has just returned from Sheffield where he was one of five finalists in the National Young Pastry Chef of the Year competition, organised by The Masterchefs of Great Britain.
Alan Holloway, 19, from Bude, who is currently studying Patisserie NVQ Diploma Level 3 at the College and working as a pastry chef at the Widemouth Manor Hotel, was selected to be a finalist from hundreds of entrants across the country after submitting a menu with methods, costings and a time plan for the preparation of two desserts in two hours.
Entrants were given a soufflé as one of their required desserts; however they had to adapt the recipe to put their own flavour to it. Their other dessert had to be chocolate based, but entirely their own recipe.
