One of the riders for Cornwall Blood Bikes attended the service at Tremaine Parish Church on Sunday, July 10.

The congregation were amazed to hear that the organisation is a voluntary one carrying not just blood, but samples, equipment, breast milk anything needed urgently out of hours by the NHS.

Janine had come on bike no.12 from the pool of bikes that the organisation operates, and after the service everyone had a good chance to see the motorbike resplendent in its livery and equipped with flashing lights and sirens, and of course panniers to carry the cargo and a rack on the back to fit another box  for medicines.

Rev Nicki Farr blessed the bike and the work of the volunteers who give up their spare time to ride the bikes and run the charity.

Everyone had been surprised to find that the Blood Bikes are entirely voluntarily funded when they are carrying out such necessary work, and donations will be sent to the charity.

As it was Sea Sunday, prayers were also said for seafarers, and the National Chaplain to the Coastguard, Rev Tom Ebbens, had sent a personal letter explaining the work of the Coastguard in keeping our shores and seaways safe.

Part of the collection will be going to The Seafarers’ Mission.
