The Wavelength Drive In Cinema Series team is delighted to announce Korev lager as a brand sponsor once again. This year’s events, which take place at Watergate Bay, Newquay, will launch on July 16 and run until September 5.
Quoted by Time Out Magazine as ‘the most beautiful outdoor cinema’, listed by the Financial Times and Conde Nast Traveller Magazine as one of the world’s best outdoor cinema experiences, and lauded by Radio 2 DJ Jo Whiley amongst others, last year’s alfresco cinematic sessions provided the perfect backdrop of peeling waves and stunning sunsets.
Having just unveiled a major rebrand that aims to champion Korev’s ‘aspirational and adventurous spirit, whilst remaining proudly true to its Cornish roots’, coming on board as the official beer for the event series is one of the key events the brand will be involved with this summer.
This year, the cinema sessions are back bigger and better than before, as the team brings an epic schedule of cult cinema classics, gnar-shredding surf movies and family-favourites, as well as additional afternoon screenings on bigger LED screens and an exclusive Surf Film Festival, celebrating current and classic surf cinema.
Inspired by Cornwall’s landscape and surf-infused lifestyle, St Austell Brewery’s lager brand Korev has long had affiliations with British surfing and the outdoors, becoming the official beer of Surfing England back in 2015. In addition, the brand is a sponsor of Lucy Campbell, a professional surfing champion - from the West Country - who competes in competitions worldwide.
With space for over 200 cars and vans, the series will kick off on Friday, July 16, showing the 1978 ‘coming of age’ surf film, Big Wednesday in the evening and mockumentary comedy, Surf’s Up in the daytime. A total of 21 screenings will take place throughout the summer from July, across every weekend (from Thursdays to Sundays), with the sun finally setting on the sessions on September 15.
Andrew Turner, managing director of St Austell Brewery’s Beers & Brands said: “We’re delighted that Korev lager is sponsoring the Wavelength Drive-In Cinema again, after such a successful first year. To unleash Korev’s full potential we have invested in an exciting rebrand, inspired by the spirit of Cornwall and our connection to the coast. What better event to partner with than a series of outdoor screenings, set on the clifftops overlooking Watergate Bay? We can’t wait to support South West events again, as we emerge from lockdown, and look forward to an unmissable and long-awaited summer in Cornwall.”
Guy Hayler, commercial director of Wavelength Media, said: “It’s great to have Korev back onboard for the 2021 sessions as one of our sponsors. Being such a strong brand amongst the surf fraternity and us being the team behind Europe’s original surf publication, it just makes sense for us to forge this Cornish collaboration. Our values and passions align perfectly. We look forward to seeing plenty responsibly enjoying a refreshing pint of Korev overlooking the sea this summer.”
