CORNWALL has lost one of its best-loved writers, author E V Thompson, who died peacefully at his home at Trebartha, North Hill on Thursday, July 19 only a few days after his 81st birthday.
Ernest V Thompson was born in East London in 1931, saw wartime service in the Navy, and had worked as a police officer in Bristol.
He arrived in Cornwall in 1970 and to use his own words 'fell in love with Bodmin Moor' and 'its sense of timelessness' when he bought a derelict miner's cottage at Sharptor that had stood 'forlorn and unoccupied' for 70 years.
