CHILDREN at Egloskerry Primary have started taking part in ‘Open the Book’ assemblies as part of the school’s collective worship programme.
Open the Book is a project that enables primary school children to hear Bible stories from a team of people drawn from their local churches.
They use a variety of storytelling methods such as costumes, props and puppets to bring the stories alive. After the story there is an opportunity to reflect on an aspect of the story and join in with a short prayer if they wish.
At Egloskerry, the assemblies are delivered by Jayne Biddle and her team.
The school had its first assembly last week.
A spokesman said: “These are very engaging and bring the Bible stories to life with lots of different props and readers. They link many aspects of the school’s ethos and British values. The children thoroughly enjoyed the assembly and we are looking forward to the next one.”
