THE annual Goodacre Cup is set to return to Roadford Lake over the August Bank Holiday weekend (Saturday, August 26 to Monday, August 28).
The three-day regatta is one of the highlights of South West Lake’s (SWL) sailing calendar and will attract plenty of big crowds.
The Goodacre Cup is an open event hosted jointly by South West Lakes (SWL) and the Roadford Lake Sailing Club (RLSC) and is therefore open to all SWL members as well as any other sailors.
This year’s event has attracted generous sponsorship from Ambrosia and there will be many prizes and trophies to be won!
The event, promises to be three days of great racing and friendly, competitive fun.
A large barbecue on the Saturday evening will be provided by the sailing club, which entrants and their families can share to cook their own food on, making it a lovely, social evening. Many people like to camp on site for the duration of the regatta, making it a real family event.
Entrants can either enter their own boat or there will be a certain amount of dinghies available to hire from Roadford.
As well as the sailing, you can enjoy a wide range of activities at Roadford, including windsurfing, kayaking and fishing. Land-based activities also include high ropes, indoor climbing and archery. There is also a campsite adjacent to the water’s edge and a licensed café on the opposite side of the lake.
