CALSTOCK F have been crowned the 2016/17 Launceston and District?Snooker League champions.

The village club finished 12 points ahead of nearest challengers Colin Park A who were just two frames better off than Lifton and Bere Alston who finished third and fourth.

Lifton took third as a result of winning once more than Bere Alston.

This year all eleven teams again competed in one league, but this time with individual player handicaps. Calstock F adapted well to the system and wrapped up the championship with two weeks to spare.

Reigning champions Luckett finished a disappointing ninth.

Matt Eales of Colin Park A was crowned ‘Singles Champion’ after beating Steve Hanson (Callington) 3-1 in the final.

Colin Park A pair Andrew Baker and Edmund Niciecki defeated Nigel Thorpe and Michael Pearce (Stoke Climsland) in the doubles final by three frames to nil.

Lifton won the Team Knockout Cup by beating Colin Park A 3-1 in the showpiece event.

The highest break of the season (38) was made twice, once by Alden Livingston (Kelly Bray) and Matt Eales (Colin Park A). Other monthly break winners were Barry Blatchford (Calstock F) 37, James Reddicliffe (Bere Alston A) 30, Robert Bakewell (Colin Park A) 33, Paddy James (Lifton) 27 and Aaron Royston (Calstock F) 34.

Colin Park A duo Eales and Niciecki picked up the most wins for the season 18 (including Knockout Cup matches), but Eales lost one fewer match (four).

Calstock F were the eventually winners of the Ken Allen Memorial Trophy.

In a challenge match on finals night, the league champions took on a Pick of the League team with the Pick of the League side emerging 3-2 winners.

League chairman Andrew Williams expressed his thanks to Calstock Snooker Club for hosting the Finals and Presentation evening held on Saturday, April 8 and to the ladies for the buffet. The trophies were presented by league stalwart Mike Vanstone (Lifton).

The league AGM will take place on Monday, July 17 at Luckett Social Club with a 7.30pm start. Any new teams are welcome.
