Peggy notches up 70 years as church organist

By The Post in Local People

MRS Peggy Wilton was presented with a certificate and a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the Delabole Methodist Church at a church lunch at Trencreek near Bude on Sunday, May 8.

The certificate marked her 70-years as an organist in various Methodist Churches in Cornwall, most recently 20-years at the Delabole Methodist Church.

Prior to living in Delabole, Peggy was one of the organists at the Bethel Methodist Church, near Warbstow, for around 30-years, where she was involved in farming with her late husband.

Peggy first played the organ at the now demolished Black Cross Methodist Church in the former St Columb and Padstow Circuit, and in other Methodist Churches in that area where there was a need.

She recalls playing the organ at some churches when her father was the appointed preacher to lead the service.

The Rev Bryan Ede, who presented the certificate and flowers to Peggy said: “Peggy has always been willing to play, either the organ or piano, when requested and has helped us in other Churches as well.

“We are grateful to her for using her gift of music so willingly over the years.”
